EDMONTON, Alberta, October 28, 2026 - Alberta's Ministry of Technology and Innovation has signed a software contract with ScaleupMap, an Edmonton-founded AI venture intelligence platform. The ministry will use it to make reviews across its innovation programs faster and more consistent, and to support the province's broader startup ecosystem.
From an internal fund tool to a platform for founders
ScaleupMap's patent-pending models were first developed in-house at ScaleGood, an Alberta venture capital fund led by a successful Alberta tech entrepreneur. The initial goal was to research every venture thoroughly and write investment memos free of bias.
As the team used the tool, it became clear that this kind of rigorous, objective read was exactly what founders were missing. Most founders only get it once they're already in front of an investor, if at all. So ScaleupMap moved beyond an internal fund tool and became a platform built for founders and the wider innovation community.
The platform is built, hosted, and deployed in Canada, and was built entirely by Alberta-based and educated software engineers. ScaleupMap is also a 100% Alberta owned company.
Proven in competition
Before its work with the province, ScaleupMap powered Alberta Innovates' Scaleup GAP Super Session pitch competition, which awarded over $50,000 in cash and prizes to top Alberta startups. Founders used the platform to prepare their submissions. Judges used ScaleupMap generated tear sheets to check their own assessments, and human reviewers made every final decision.
“For me, it used to take about eight hours to assess twenty startups, using spreadsheets and handwritten notes. With ScaleupMap, I assessed thirty companies in about five hours. The AI produces accurate summations in the form of a single tear sheet. It's an excellent means to do a triple check of your work and ensure your weightings are sound. I highly recommend ScaleupMap as an aid to accelerators, startup hubs, and educational institutions.”
The same engine, open to founders
Founders can now use the same engine through ScaleupMap's founder tools. It gives them the kind of objective, investor-grade feedback that's hard to find, along with personalized, real-time guidance from an AI co-founder. It's free for founders at any stage to start using.
“ScaleupMap started as a way to help investors make better decisions. Seeing that same engine help a government program make its reviews faster and more consistent, built entirely by an Alberta team, is exactly what we hoped for when we started building here.”
The partnership reflects a broader push under the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy 2.0 to strengthen the province's own technology sector. That push goes beyond funding the sector to putting what it builds to work inside government. ScaleupMap aims to help commercialize more Alberta research, increase patent filings, create jobs and companies, and keep talent and IP in the province.
About ScaleupMap
ScaleupMap is an Edmonton-based AI venture intelligence platform, built, hosted, and deployed in Canada. For founders, it delivers objective, investor-grade analysis of their venture, paired with an AI co-founder to help act on it. For investors, it screens incoming ventures against their thesis, writes investment memos, and tracks portfolio progress in a way founders actually want to engage with. For institutions like accelerators, pitch competitions, and government programs, it supports applicant screening, cohort management, and progress tracking. The platform grew out of patent-pending models developed at ScaleGood, an Alberta venture capital fund.
